This Volcano is located within the Cotopaxi National Park and has an exceptional view of the second highest volcano in Ecuador, Cotopaxi, the ascent begins on the plain of the Limpiopungo lagoon, it has three main peaks: the northern peak, which is the highest, the central peak, which is the easiest, and the southern peak, which is the most difficult. Its name comes from the Quichua “rumi”, which means “stone” and “ñahui” which means “face”; what would become “Stone Face”.

Day 1

Quito (2,800 m) – Summit of the Rumiñahui Volcano (4,712 m) – Return to Quito

Detailed Itinerary

We start our adventure in the morning at 07:00 a.m. from Quito, we will change direction to the south along the Avenida de los Volcanes and in 2 hours we will arrive at the Cotopaxi National Park and later at the “Laguna Limpiopungo” (3,830 m) where we begin the walk We will leave the car and take what is necessary to walk to the summit of the Rumiñahui Volcano, which measures 4,712 m. We will enjoy the páramos and the beautiful landscape of the Andes. We will observe some volcanoes such as: Cotopaxi, Antisana, Chimborazo, Sincholagua, the walk will take place in 5 hours to the summit while the return will be 2 hours, we have box lunch for the walk. We will return to the “Laguna Limpiopungo” and in the afternoon return to Quito.
