The Cotopaxi Volcano is the second highest elevation in Ecuador, its semi-perfect cone and its proximity to Quito make it a desired mountain for climbers with or without experience, we strongly recommend taking an adequate acclimatization program to have a better chance of success to reach the summit.

Quito (2,800 m) – José Rivas Refuge (4.8 00 m)

Day 2

José Rivas Refuge (4.8 00 m) – Summit of the Cotopaxi Volcano (5,897 m) – Return Quito

Detailed Itinerary

Our adventure begins in the city of Quito at 09:00 a.m. We will drive for 1 hour on the Panamerican Highway south to Machachi, where in our office we will test the necessary mountain equipment for the ascent, then we will have lunch at a local restaurant to then move to the Cotopaxi parking lot that will be done in 2 hours, here we will take our large Backpacks to walk uphill for 1 hour until we reach the José Rivas Refuge, here we will have hot drinks and a talk about the management of the mountain team and more details necessary for the ascent, before nightfall the wax dinner served and then go to rest.

The day begins at 11:00 p.m. after a good breakfast and packing. The total ascent lasts 6 hours, but without first going through cracks and a very beautiful glacier, the skills and the acclimatization process will be put to use. to the test to reach the summit of this emblematic volcano, already at the summit we will be able to appreciate many volcanoes among them, El Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Ilinizas etc… the descent will be done by the same route in 3 hours to the refuge where we will pack and return To Quito.
